Empowering deaf and blind patrons to carry out creative projects in Fablabs
We conducted a series of interviews with deaf and blind people, as well as organizations working with these communities, in order to understand their reality and their needs.
Distinct ideation workshops, one adapted to deaf people and the second adapted to blind people, were conducted in order to define which activities would be most beneficial for these users and the conditions for success that will allow the activities to be implemented in a Fablab context.
Meilleur Monde developed two prototype kits that allowed people with disabilities to independently carry out creative activities at the Fablab. The first kit focused on blind people and centered on podcast creation. The second was dedicated to deaf people and focused on the creation of green screen videos for deaf audiences.
The preliminary kits were tested with deaf and blind people to identify opportunities for improvement.
The kits were improved to provide all the tools needed to enable deaf and blind users to have a pleasant and rewarding experience, and to ensure that Fablab staff can support these users in their activities.
